So, what do you do when you have gone to the trouble of booking a seat only to discover that said seat is already occupied and the occupant refuses to move. They do this in the knowledge that short of manhandling them up and out there is little that can be done.
Because we have limited staff passes I have to go to the palaver of visiting a local BR station to book seats which is a faff. Therefore I am a bit precious about my seats.
Therefore an earlier episode today which I posted on my private FB account was galling to say the least. And I came out in sympathy with the young chap who had helpfully assisted others in stowing their heavy suitcases in the overhead rack but could not take his reserved seat as the young lady in it refused to budge.
Where is the common courtesy and sense of fair play that we Brits are supposed to be famed for?
Well, actually it is present. The young woman whose bag had been stowed told him he could claim for losing his seat. She had previously agreed to let me sit in her booked seat so I could sit with our son, who has learning difficulties. I had tried to get adjacent seats but the numbering is so off these days that we were both in window seats on opposite sides of the aisle.
So there is hope. But I fear it is in decline.
Next we shall see rampant queue jumping. At which point we should seize our pitch forks and go into battle.
